Notes on Registration

You will need to sign up for a specific room type:

  • Double room (specify one or two beds when you sign up) - 10 double rooms are  available
  • Single room (we have a limited number of spots for “solos,” i.e., single occupancy) - 3 solos - FULL

If you are signing up for a double room, you need to specify a roommate: just one person signs up and adds the name and information for their roommate.

What if I do not have a roommate lined up? You can sign up under "Double Occupancy - need a roommate" and you will be placed on the wait list. We can see if we can pair you and then you get added to the tour (*no payment until you are added). We are reserving 2 rooms (4 people total) for this.

OVERVIEW

Join your SRCC friends for a 8-night, 7 riding days trip down the California coast, from Santa Barbara to Chula Vista, with an optional trip to the border. The group will return to Santa Barbara by train for a final night. This tour is the “inn-to-inn” style – no camping!

The tour includes miles and miles of beachfront riding as well as a couple of side trips to lovely California missions. Each riding day is mandatory since we move down the coast each day. Rides range from 37-58 miles with an average of 1400 feet of climb each day.

Note: this tour is a bit different than those from 2017 and 2018 with one additional day of riding and overnight stay and the addition of two "inland" loops to experience California history.

TOUR FEE

  • The tour fee is $1,550 per person, double occupancy
  • For single occupancy, the additional single supplement will be $950

Participants are encouraged to find their own roommate if possible; as noted above, we have provided limited spots for those without a roommate and we will attempt to pair you.

The initial deposit is $50 (payable online). The first installment (by check*) of $750 will be due within 2 weeks of your registration. The second and final installment (by check*) of $750 will be due by June 1, 2023.  Fees are based on double occupancy; those preferring single occupancy will need to pay a single supplement of $950 (with the second installment), $1700 total.

* Arrangements can be made to pay by credit card for an additional fee of $25 per installment (to cover credit card fees).

The tour fee covers the items below.

  • Seven wonderful days on the bike!
  • A total of 8 hotel nights
  • Breakfast every morning except for the last (departure) day
  • Lunch and snacks each riding day (including one taqueria lunch)
  • Dinner on the final tour night in Chula Vista (beach party)
  • Train (Amtrak) tickets
  • SAG/gear/luggage/bike transport during the tour
  • Insurance and support including a tour leader for each stage
  • And more! See below

The fee also includes route maps (electronic files and hard copies upon request), sightseeing information, and coordination of activities, lodging, and more provided by the tour organizers. Participants are responsible for paying for their own dinners except for the one group dinner night. Any coffee stops are also on your own. Parking in Santa Barbara at the Amtrak station will be $5/day ($35 total) per vehicle. You will also need to purchase a $7 ticket for the Coronado ferry.

We will have a luggage van as well as a support vehicle available in case of emergencies and with some basic first aid supplies and tools.  All participants are expected to be self-sufficient on the road and bikes need to be in good working order. Please bring your own tubes, hand pump or CO2 and a multi-tool. A couple of floor pumps will be available.

Tour participants are covered by the club’s insurance should an accident happen while on the designated routes. Note that any accidents while not riding on the designated routes or during driving to or from the start location as well as theft of your bicycle or belongings, is not covered. All participants need to be responsible for keeping their bicycle and belongings safe and secure. Parking in Santa Barbara will be at the Amtrak station (just $5/day validated by Amtrak).

HOTELS

Hotels are all located within walking distance to restaurants and amenities so you can experience the area and local flavors. Every hotel has a swimming pool and most have hot tubs and laundry.

Cancellation Policy

  • Within 30 days of registration (or before March 1 at the latest), you will receive a full refund.
  • After 30 days, refunds of tour payments will depend upon whether a replacement rider signs up, and on costs that can be recouped. The amount refunded will be based on the principle that neither the tour’s remaining participants nor the Club will incur any additional cost as a result of cancellations.  If the cancelling participant is replaced, a refund will be made at that time, less a $25 fee.
  • If the cancelling participant can't be replaced, any refund will be determined after the tour and final expenses are tabulated.
  • If a single participant cancels and another roommate cannot be found, in addition to other costs that cannot be recouped, the cancelling roommate may also be liable for the single supplement fee of the roommate remaining on the tour.

Note: tour cancellation fees vary based on tour costs and financial obligations.

We reserve the right to cancel or modify trips for any reason if circumstances make it necessary. In the event that SRCC needs to cancel, we will do our best to provide a 30 day notice and a full refund for monies received. Refunds will be for the tour fee only, less any costs expended and not refunded to SRCC due to the cancellation, and do not include transportation or other expenses incurred on the part of tour participants. Tours are generally held rain or shine. Thanks for your support and understanding.
