SRCC CODE OF CONDUCT

Effective June 1, 2026

The Santa Rosa Cycling Club (SRCC, the Club) is committed to upholding its reputation as an organization that is free from bias, prejudice, and harassment – whether verbal, physical, or visual.

As an SRCC Member, I promise to practice good sportsmanship and conduct myself in a respectable manner at all Club activities and events, and wherever I am representing SRCC. (“Representing SRCC” means any time you are at an event where you are registered or identified as an SRCC rider, member, ride leader, volunteer, staff, board member, donor, or participant.).

I agree to abide by the following Code of Conduct:

  • I will behave well and honorably, act respectfully, and strive to be a positive role model.
  • I will treat everyone with dignity, respect, and compassion to foster a trusting environment free of harassment, intimidation, and discrimination.
  • I will communicate concerns with other’s behavior, should the need arise, to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all.
  • I will promote inclusion by encouraging all, regardless of their race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, marital status, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
  • I will not harass, bully, threaten, alienate, discriminate, or make disparaging remarks to/against any person, present or absent.
  • I will not harass or alienate others through my attire, verbal comments, or unwelcome attention.
  • I will refrain from non-consensual physical contact, sexual advances, sexual references, obscene language or gestures, and other unwanted behavior.
  • I will display respect and courtesy for club members, volunteers, program participants, and property.
  • If I am asked by anyone to refrain from an activity or behavior that they find offensive or unacceptable, I will respond respectfully and either refrain as requested or engage in a civil conversation about how best to resolve the situation.
  • I understand that any retaliation against someone who objects to my activity or behavior is a violation of this Code of Conduct and subject to disciplinary action.
  • I will abide by all relevant traffic regulations whether on individual or group rides, respect rules of the road, and maintain safe riding habits.
  • I will show respect to drivers of motor vehicles, neighbors, businesses, property owners, and pedestrians, in the interest of maintaining good relations between the Club and the community.
  • I will display respect for cyclists on all types of bicycles, including e-bikes, as well as first-time riders, physically challenged riders, and riders who are not dressed or equipped like I am.
  • I will not consume alcohol beyond the legal limits, or other substances at SRCC events and will not report to or ride in these events while inebriated or impaired under the influence of illegal, prescription, or recreational drugs.
  • I will not have in my possession or carry a firearm at any Club activity or event, even if I am legally permitted to do so.

SRCC members must be conscious of their role as ambassadors to all surrounding communities, cycling and non-cycling. The SRCC logo and club identity advertise the club. Bad behavior, even simple failure to follow traffic laws, when observed by the public, can tarnish the club’s image.

SRCC Membership is a privilege. Membership may be suspended or revoked (in accordance with procedures in the Club Bylaws) if a member is in material violation of this Code of Conduct.

Reporting a Violation

Members who experience or witness inappropriate or unacceptable activity or behavior as outlined above are encouraged to first discuss it with the offending individual. Direct response is the simplest and most effective means of correcting unacceptable behavior, and avoids an escalation process that is certain to be more complicated and difficult than the direct response.

If direct response is not taken, or the behavior is not corrected or is repeated, the member should promptly report the issue by contacting an SRCC Board Member. To facilitate a prompt investigation, we ask that such reports be in writing with description of the incident(s), names or the individuals involved, names of witnesses, relevant dates, times, and locations. You may call or send an email to President@SRCC.com or any other board member. Your report, including identification of witnesses, will be treated with the strictest confidentiality. A Board Member will contact you for follow up. Any retaliation against members reporting inappropriate or unacceptable activity or behavior is a violation of the Code of Conduct and is subject to disciplinary action.
