"Now for something complete different"
Join the Chain Gang on our last ride before our faithful leader Ed returns. We meet at Howarth Park and make our way over Riebli Rd. Instead of our usual juant down Mark West Rd., we take an immediate left and make a smooth climb on Cross Creel back up to Fountain Grove, Thomas Lake Harris Dr. and a secret shortcut to Old Redwood Hwy. After that we take an easy ride to Fought Rd and on to Windsor with a break at BurtoNZ. We return on Windsor Rd to Santa Rosa for a special gravel leg.
For a little taste of gravel we will turn onto the Piner Creek Path off of Marlow Rd. and ride two miles on the gravel path along the creek. The gravel is crushed shale and not too difficult to ride. If you have a bike with wider tires I recommend them. I did ride the path on my 28mm tires without difficulty, but anything narrower might be an experience. The path ends at the Santa Rosa Creek Trail and we return to Howarth. If anyone wishes not to ride the gravel, there is an easy detour to the paved creek path where you can rejoin the gang (ask me).
The ride is 41 miles, which is a bit longer than our usual Chain Gang rides, but climbs come early and are modest. Flat to Windsor and back. It's going to be a wonderful warm day in the 80's so what else do you have to do on Sat.
