This SRCC classic is usually held in April. However, it is also a wonderful route in the fall.

Please make sure that your tires are in good condition before starting this ride. Note that the route includes two stretches of gravel road on Western Mine and Big Canyon. The word is that the deep layer of gravel which appeared on Western Mine Road last winter has finally thinned out, and the road has returned to its usual deplorable state. Still, the approximately two mile steep downhill section is challenging; be prepared to walk your bike if you feel that you are in over your head here. By contrast, Big Canyon is a piece of cake, although it may cause your teeth to rattle periodically.

We'll have our first pit stop in Middletown at a Chevron station at Mile 30. Lunch will be at a convenience store in Soda Bay at Mile 60. A brief water/food stop at the Sanel Valley Market at Mile 85 should get us home. We'll be pretty hungry at the end of this long day, so bring a change of clothes and enjoy a post-ride meal in Healdsburg.

All riders should bring a route slip, load the route on their Garmin, or have knowledge of the roads we will take. Please bring a cell phone and some cash for the rest stops. Any questions? Contact the ride leader by phone, text or email.
